Packing for Victoria

DET CRC’s RoXplorer® on site at Brukunga.

The Science Steering Committee has decided that the second and final full field trial for the RoXplorer® coiled tubing drill rig will be in Victoria.  The site near Horsham in the Murray Basin will twin a sonic/diamond hole previously drilled during the Geological Survey of Victoria/Geoscience Australia/DET CRC Stavely drilling programme.  It is anticipated that the trial will take place in June.  Many conventionally drilled holes in the Murray Basin have failed to reach planned depth due to the problematic nature of the unconsolidated cover (running sands and swelling clays).  Boart Longyear drilled sonic top-holes and diamond-tails in order to reach basement in the Stavely drilling programme.  It is no exaggeration to say that a successful trial of the RoXplorer® CT Rig at this site would open a vast area of prospective basement across three states to cost-effective exploration.  I am willing to bet that one of the original champions of DET CRC, Ed Baltis, would approve of the trial site.  Stay tuned Ed.
